How to deal with this relationshiphas always been a hot issue.“Discovering the Yangtze River†and “Rediscovering the Yangtze River†are twodocumentaries releasing twenty years apart, which both reflect Chinese national spirit.However, the creating angle of view changed with the changing of time.“DiscoveringYangtze River†shot in1980s represents mainly the historical culture and sceneries inthe Yangtze valley, while “Rediscovering Yangtze River†shot twenty years lateradopt a brand new view angle: it shows the audiences the natural sceneries of YangtzeRiver and on the other hand makes them aware of the great changes in this country.Compared to “Discovering Yangtze Riverâ€, the latter one pays more attention to theunderstanding of relations between human and society, human and nature, andinterpersonal relationships as well. Worries toward ecological deterioration areexpressed through real record. In conclusion, these two documentaries are perfectcombination of Chinese traditional aesthetic spirit and Chinese Modern Documentary.This thesis analyzes the relationship between social development environment andhuman living environment on the foundation of aesthetics through arranging timequantum in the past two decades.This thesis has three chapters in total. By discussing the two documentaries’ socialvalue and the relationship among environment, politics, economy and culture in thefirst chapter, the changes that social reform has brought to human living environmentare revealed. The second chapter exemplifies the reform on artistic expression fromfive aspects like shooting images, sound effect, interpretation patterns, storytelling,and theme conception.
