Multi-angle Research For "V+Gei+NP" Structure

This article makes the detailed analysis of "V+gei+NP" from the diachronicand synchronic perspective.From the diachronic perspective,the article makes acomprehensive analysis of “gei”’s grammaticalization process.It finds out thedevelopment of “gei” through summarizing lots of”gei” in historical documents. Due tothe development and change of "give" is special and complex, it divides”gei” into "1" to"to6" six parts according to the usage characteristics of different periods. At the sametime,it separates out the structure type "gei" and "V+gei" to make the analysis in order tomake adequate and detailed foreshadowing for the synchronic analysis in the back of thispaper.From the diachronic perspective, the paper uses the popular and cutting-edgemethods in the academia to make detailed analysis of each part of the "V+gei+NP"structure from the perspective of grammar, semantics and structure. At last, it analyzesthe constructional meaning of the whole "V+gei+NP" structure.Firstly, the paper makes a new definition for the part of speech of “gei” in the "V+gei+NP" structure. The part of speech of “gei” should be discussed separately accordingto the different verbs matched with “gei”. This paper argues that "gei" in this structurecan be divided into light verb and verb so that we can do a comprehensive analysis.Secondly, the paper makes a comprehensive synchronic analysis of each part of the"V+gei+NP" structure and also makes a detailed description from the perspective ofgrammar, semantics and structure. It summarizes the specific types of "V+gei+NP"structure according to a large corpus of selected contemporary documents.And then, itanalyzes the semantic types of V and NP according to “Chinese Verbs Dictionary” ofCong Meng. It makes a reasonable semantic interpretation for the looming of VP and thedefault and displacements of the NP.Thirdly, it analyzes the constructional meaning of the "V+gei+NP" structureaccording to the popular and cutting-edge methods in the academia——constructiongrammar theory.The paper discusses the fusion styles of the verb participant roles andtheir constructional meaning and analyzes the "V+gei+NP" inheritance pattern and also summs up the relationships between the "V+gei+NP" structure and other relatedconstructions.Then, in view of the "V+gei+NP" structure characteristics,the papersummarizes its inheritance:" metaphor+multiple inheritance " and " multipleinheritance " categories.Finally, it analyzes the constructional meaning of "V+gei+NP"structure and its related structures and sums up their connectional relationships.
