A Report On A Simulated Interpreting Of2013Sino-us Headsof State Meeting

It is well known that Sino-US relationship is considered the most important bilateralrelationship in the21stcentury. In recent years, with the raising of the overall nationalstrength of China as well as the deepening of her influence in the world, exchanges andcooperations between China and the United States are becoming ever more frequent. InSeptember,2009, President Obama made a three-day state visit to China. And in June of2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping had his first informal meeting with President Obamaat Annenberg Estate in California, and exchanged their thoughts on how to build a newtype of major country relations. This paper is based on a simulated interpreting of thishistorical meeting between Sino-US heads of state in June2013. This paper is made upof four chapters. In the first chapter, the author talks about some preparations for theinterpreting, including vocabulary preparation, interpreting methods, and other necessarypreparations. The second chapter deals with specific interpreting problems and solutionsto those problems. The third chapter summarizes the disadvantages of the author as aninterpreter like nervous feelings and a lack of excellent note-taking skill. The last chaptercovers some reflections the author made on this simulated interpreting. In this part theauthor mainly points out the importance of pre-interpreting preparations, take notesefficiently, and daily accumulation. Pre-interpreting preparation, a necessary step,decides whether the interpreter can complete his or her interpreting in a smooth andsuccessful way. And taking notes in an efficient way is one of the most important skillsfor interpreters to posses. In consecutive interpreting, it is hard for an interpreter tomemorize what the speaker has just said relying only on his or her short memory. Onlyby combining short memory with note-taking can the interpreter convey the meaning ofthe speech more accurately.
