This thesis studies the works of Wei Wei through the lingering expression of escape andconversion. The novels on the background of the escape of boys and girls in puberty andconversion to family in manhood, implies the writer’s theme of initiation. This thesis alsodiscusses the creation of initiation theme as an essential part of Wei Wei’s works, elaboratesthe special value of growth and explores the inner connection between his personal experienceand initiation theme.The thesis consists of three parts. The introduction section briefly explains that growth isof inevitable attention for literature and initiation theme has become a hot point inBildungsroman as also in Wei Wei’s works. Taken Germany, Britain and America as themodel of creation, the first chapter retrospect the development of initiation novel and explainsits focus of creation. Then comes the analysis of the development and characters of Chineseinitiation novels, the definition of initiation novel and difference with initiation theme.The second part starts from chapter two to chapter five which gives detailed analysis ofWei Wei’s works. The second chapter is an initiatory summary of Wei Wei’s comprehensiveart style. The third chapter to the fifth chapter analyzes Wei Wei’s disparate perspective andattitudes towards male and female.Through the analysis and summary of initiation theme in Wei Wei’s works, the third partfrom chapter six to the end of this thesis concludes the initiation writing’s aestheticcharacteristics.
