A Report On An Interpreting Task At Intercontinental Beijing Financial Street Hotel

With the increasing internationalization of China, cross-cultural communicationhas become a common occurrence. As the bridge for the communication of differentlanguages, translators play a vitally important role. Moreover, the market demand forthe interpreters which needs the highest comprehensive competence has grown day byday. Any interpreter must not only learn a large amount of theoretical knowledge, butalso attend the interpreting practice to improve the actual operating capacity. Beforegraduation, School of Foreign Studies, Liaoning University sent me to one of ourpractice bases at Intercontinental Beijing Financial Street Hotel for professionaltraining. It aims at putting students’ knowledge to use and serving the society better.In this report, the author selected a typical interpreting task during the internship. Thetask has been described and analyzed in this report. The report is composed of threeparts. The first part is the task description. The introduction to the practice base—Intercontinental Beijing Financial Street Hotel, the speaker and the responsibilities forthe interpreter will be shown in this chapter. The second part is the process description.The author presents the whole interpreting task from three aspects—the preparation,the execution and the evaluation. The third part is the strategies analysis. The authorstresses three strategies which contributed most during the interpreting process. In theconclusion part, the author sums up the whole task and shares her reflections on herfirst interpreting with the readers.
