Higashino Keigo is one representative of the most influential deductive novelists inmodern Japanese literary world. In2006, his name became widely known for TheDevotion of Suspect X, which set off an upsurge in Japan and even East Asia. The rise ofHigashino Keigo paves the new way for the Japanese deductive stories and has drawnthe readers’ extensive attention.Higashino Keigo’s achievements in literature are acquired with the background ofthe overall low level of the Japanese literature. His sudden rise in the field of deductivestories not only reflects the certain variation that readers are searching for in modernJapan, but they also provide the new way and direction for the development of literatureitself in modernism. Therefore, it is reasonable for revealing and analyzing theexcellence of his novels, and the novels are to be mostly studied in literature research.Obviously, as far as style is concerned, deductive novels should belong to popularliterature. Higashino Keigo is not a pioneer among Japanese deductive novelists.Furthermore, he is not a pure literary writer to Chinese readers; also he is just a newvaliant writer in the circles of deductive stories. Thus, the study of Higashino Keigo isstill in the initial stage in our country.Perfectly combining the sad and mild love and calm reasoning, White Nightbeautifully represents all of Higashino Keigo’s works, and his successful description of“the most desperate thought, the most grief watch” made him win the four prizes in the48thAcademy Award of Japanese novels. Focusing on Higashino Keigo’s representativework—White Night and its interpretation of the reality of this work, the thesis aims atshowing the basic characteristics as well as artistic charm of Higashino Keigo’s theschool of bengue realism style, and basically outlines and defines the artistic value ofhis deductive stories.
