Religion and science are two different ways of human beings to understand theworld, the two has wide and complex relations. And the relationship between the twohas always been an important academic topic by domestic and foreign scholars, it alsobelongs to the international interdisciplinary subject. This subject not only involves thehistory of religion, religion, philosophy of religion or other religious knowledge, butalso is an important issue in the history of science and philosophy of science, whichare concerned by them. When mentioned that in16or17century modern natural science rosed inWestern Europe, we will think of famous scientists and philosophers in that time, suchas Copernicus, Francis, Bacon, Kepler, Boyle, Newton and so on, they had producedmuch important achievements such as astronomy, mathematics, physics. Summary ofresearch methods that they used, observed the fact of experience, pay attention to themeans of experiment, the use of causal relationship and rational analysis. People cannot help to ask, modern science is how to inherit the traditional research methods?Think of this question, people tend to be traced back to ancient Greek culture, extremely easy to ignore the effect of Christian culture on modern science which islong-term rule of Western, even thought the conservative Christian theologyimprisons the rise of modern science, modern science has been sprouting a longhistory of brutal suppression of darkness. However, modern science rose in the darkof in the end middle ages, and vigorous developed in post reformation, whichillustrates the influence of Christian culture on the rise and development of modernscience is positive.First of all, this article in the part of “the origin of the problem” will throwaway a brick in order to get a gem, which do foreshadowing for following topic.Through concluding and summarizing the research resulted on Christian culture beinginfluence to modern science at home and abroad, to understand the study of this issueat home and abroad, that to lay a theoretical foundation for later discussion. There arethree main types of academic circles about the Influence of Christian Culture on Modern Science, which are the conflict theory, irrelevancy theory, complementarytheory, while this article is not to take one view, comprehensive those three viewes, Ithink the influence of Christian Culture on Modern Science is conflictful, but underthe conflict hiding favorable factors that contribute to modern science’s rise ordevelopment,we can’t just use only one relationship to talk about.Secondly, the second part of the paper mainly analyzes the positive influence ofChristian culture on the rise of modern science, it is one of the focuses of this paper. This part solves an important problem, which is the major civilizations in the world, why modern science birthed in Western that under the Christianity’s dark rule, ratherthan the civilized east. This article from two aspects explicitly discusses thatChristianity provide necessary nutrients to modern science’s gestation and birth.First, the Christian theology had an positive influence on the modern scientific viewof nature and scientific concept; second, Christianity had make the intelligence andknowledge preparation to the rise of modern science. Christian builded monastery, schools and other institutions in the country, not only cultivate a batch of outstandingtalents for church, but also cultivate a large number of scientists for the emergence ofmodern natural science, at the same time, the church spread, inheritance developmentof classical culture, and lay a foundation for the Renaissance of culture and theemergence of modern science.Once again, the third part detailed analysis of the influence of Christianity onthe development of modern science, mainly from three aspects. First, the new idea ofprocess reformation inspired scientists research activities to a certain extent, promotedthe development of modern science. Second, modern scientist Christian faith alsocontributed to the development of Science in a certain extent. Third, with thedevelopment of modern science, the scientific achievements of human abuse causedgreat disaster enables scientists to search for religious morality to guide people tobetter utilize science, which play a leading role in the development of Christianity inmodern science. Finally, the fourth part of the thesis discusses the Christian culture on thelimitations of modern scientific impact, this part mainly from two aspects. First, theChristian culture restrict the development of modern science and the reason analysis.Because Christianity and modern science, in epistemology, methodology, logicalthinking, there are different and the moral and interests have contradiction, so whenthe development side of the other party will be pushed forward. Second, produce, development of anything is the interaction of a series of related factors, rather than anindividual factors. Therefore, the rise and development of modern science in sixteen, seventeenth Century was the political, economic, cultural and combined action result,Christian culture is just one of the factors in the rise of modern science and thedevelopment of.The paper based on the complex theory For the relationships between theChristian and modern science, that means the two is an extremely complex, theserelationships also contains interdependent, mutually exclusive, mutual influence, mutual promoting meaning. In the high-tech age, these relationships continued, wecan not judge whether science and Christian will be completely cut off or completelyfused in the future of the world, but now people aware of that science and Christianalso affect our lives, even today Christian culture will not fade in the cultural historyin the rapid development of science and technology.
