With the deepening of the reform and opening up and the entry into WTO, China is occupying an increasingly significant position on the world arena especially after the29th Olympic Games as well as the Shanghai World Expo held successfully in the year of2010. Ranging from politics, culture to economy, exchange between China and foreign countries is even more frequent. Under such circumstances, English takes up an increasingly important position in China as one of the most commonly used language in the globe; as a result, more and more Chinese are learning or acquiring English. However, though so many people are enthusiastic about English study, the actual application level of English in this nation allows no optimism, and there is a severe lack of certified interpreters who can offer high-quality interpretation for all walks of life, some highly-professional fields in particular. Interpreting professional knowledge concerning specific fields is really a prospective job opportunity which deserves each interpreter to strive for it; also poses a huge challenge.Professional knowledge concerning specific work is one of the biggest factors that influence the quality of interpretation. Therefore, this thesis offers tentative study on how interpreters can master professional knowledge faster so as to improve the interpretation quality. This thesis consists of five parts. The first part is the discussion about the background and significance of the research. The second part provides the literature review. Next comes the third part in which the author tries to define what knowledge is necessary for interpreters to acquire and what professional knowledge is. The fourth part offers some practical techniques to facilitate interpreters in acquiring professional knowledge faster. The last part is the conclusion that summarizes the main ideas of the thesis as well as limitations of the research that necessitates future exploration.
