| This is a report on the translation of the Introduction and Chapter1of Issues andOptions in Language Teaching written by H. H. Stern. Mr. Stern introduced readers anew language teaching theory through a three-level model which contains basictheoretical or philosophical level, policy level and practical action level. The source textnot only introduces the history of other language teaching theories, but also putsemphasis on the usage principles of the teaching theory in language teaching practice.Under the guidance of the cohesion theory, this report is an attempt to present themethods used in the translation in the form of combining examples with analysis. Themain contents of this report are divided into four parts. The first part is the introductionof the translation project, including the background of the project, project significance,and the structure of the report. The second part mainly introduces the source text,including the introduction of the author, main contents of the source text as well as theanalysis of the source text. The third part is the case analysis under cohesion theorywhich covers the introduction of cohesion theory and the case analysis from thefollowing categories: reference, substitution, ellipsis, conjunction and lexical cohesion.The last part of the report concludes with the lessons, enlightenments and unsolvedproblems in the translation project. |
