Objectives To explore the character of migrant children’s family functioning, resilience and acculturation, to develop and testify the family functioning-resilience-acculturation model for migrant children, and to construct group intervention program for resilience and confirm its efficacy to migrant children’s resilience and acculturation.Methods(1)Questionnaire:We adopted the overall family functioning rating scale for adolescents, the resilience scale for Chinese adolescents, sociocultural adaptation questionnaire, subjective well-being scale and the questionnaire of demographic. Then the questionnaires were administered to555migrant children from Beijing by cluster sampling. We used latent profile analysis, ANOVA, correlation analysis, structural equation model to analyse the data.(2)Experimental study:Two classes of students with similar backgrounds were chosen to participate the group intervention which was a2*2mixed design. They were divided into two groups: the experimental group and comparison group. The experimental group received seven times of resilience intervention activities, while the comparison group received no intervention. Repeated measures ANOVA and Cross-lagged regression analysis were used to assess the effect of the intervention.Results(1)Acculturation types of migrant children could be categorized into four groups:ordinary group, weak group, fine group and bipolar group.(2)The scores of girl’s resilience, help-seeking and family support were significantly higher than that of the boy’s.(3)Grade significantly influenced migrant children’s resilience, help-seeking, affect control, positive thinking, family-support, sociocultural adaptation and negative affect.(4)Migrant children’s sociocultural adaptation in stem family was significantly better than those in nuclear family, and the only child’s sociocultural adaptation was significantly better than the non-child.(5)The mother’s education level had a main effect on migrant children’s resilience, affect control and sociocultural adaptation. The father’s education level and the mother’s level of education had interaction effect on the family functioning.(6)Results of structural equation model revealed that family functioning of migrant children was a significant negative predictor of sociocultural adaptation, and was a significant positive predictor of psychological adaptation. Moreover, the relationship between family functioning and acculturation (which was shown by sociocultural and psychological adaptation) was partially mediated by resilience.(7)Sociocultural adaptation of the migrant children partially mediated the effect of family functioning on psychological adaptation, and the effect of resilience on psychological adaptation.(8)The resilience intervention activities had a significant effect to improve their resilience and affect control.(9)The resilience intervention activities significantly improved resilience and affenct control of all groups. Besides, they improved the low resilience group’s, goal planning, help-seeking, affect control and positive thinking the same time(10)Changes of the experimental group’s resilience scores could predict the change of psychological adaptation.ConclusionMigrant children’s family functioning, resilience and sociocultural adaptation and psychological adaptation are significantly different on the part of the demographic variables. The family functioning-resilience-acculturation model for migrant children had been verified. The resilience intervention activities could contribute to develop migrant children’s resilience and improve their psychological adaptation.
