The Study On Selected Lexicons In Liao History

Liao History is a biographical history book, written by Tuotuo et al.in the Yuan Dynasty. It contains a great many of documents and original materials. The book contains a lot of proverbs and loan words. Its language has distinguishing feature and has a certain significance to the history of Chinese lexicology, especially to the modern Chinese lexicology study. This paper regards some Chinese native and loan words from the book as the research object, involving the interpretation and evolution of the proverbs, the gloss and source of the text words, the definition and analysis of the loan words, etc. The research mainly includes:First, this paper comprehensive expounds the research status of Liao History, especially the current status of the language study, discussing the research value and introducing the research methods. Second, this paper studies the proverbs in the book. It uses the method of exegetics to study a part of the proverbs in the book, making description and analysis of the words’meaning. And it puts words into the whole Chinese history to inspect the usage, development and evolution of the meaning.Third, this paper studies the text words in the book. It accounts for a portion of the text words, which is difficult to understand. And it focuses on the generation and evolution of the new meanings or the new words, to provide some references for the rheological of the text words in modern Chinese.Fourth, this paper makes the interpretations of the loan words in the book. It divides the loan words into three categories, office terms, appellation terms and name things. It explores the etymology, to inspect its links with the modern Chinese and do some basic work for the study of the Liao dynasty language fusion.This paper mainly uses the methods of traditional exegesis study, descriptive analysis and diachronic comparison, in the case of striving for accurate. It shows the language characters of the book, as far as possible to provide the beneficial references for the cohort study of Liao Dynasty of Chinese lexicology, as well as the study of the history of Chinese lexicology.
