This paper focuses on the Shantang and Huqiu area in Suzhou, analysis of the late Qing dynasty to the republic of China and the social culture of Suzhou city, as well as the relationship between the traditional. The article tried to outline of Suzhou in the historical changes in the process of modernization. Therefore, this paper mainly discusses the elite around Huqiu and Shantang’s culture space and landscape resources of cultural discourse and activities, analyzed the words, ideas and practice. Since the late Qing dynasty, the Huqiu and Shantang landscape expression and connotation of culture, showing the interests of different classes and power orientation, portrays the clear traces of age. It has both artistic level, there is also a political purpose, show the Suzhou city especially Huqiu and Shantang’s landscape architecture has multiple connotations and use value. Among them, during the Ming and Qing dynasties the Huqiu and Shantang’s cultural heritage profound influence the value of the concept of intellectual elites since the late Qing period. From tradition to modern times, Suzhou city landscape resources, although in the wave of westernization decay, but still under specific era background and realistic purpose, play an important role. From Shantang to Huqiu, the traditional culture of the Suzhou space landscape architecture, where the text provides us with the specific expression of element and discourse practice in action, and so on. It became us into the Suzhou city since the late Qing period, also draw the outline of the important aspect of social culture faces in Suzhou.
