| Tao Liao Gui, as the most important of all Longhui Hua Yao traditional festivals, is the unity of various forms of complex traits created by Hua Yao people within a certain period of time. It includes entity, beliefs, values, ways of thinking, customs, ethics, national character, national art, etc. The value and meaning of Tao Liao Gui is constantly in the process of construction, renovation and production. During this process, we can see not only the power of folk culture contending for festival cultural space, but also the power of nation exploiting and manipulating folk culture. The costume of Hua Yao is the core symbol of festival cultural place of Tao Liao Gui. Through extensive ethnographic fieldwork research in Hua Yao, the author aims to show the development and changing process of festival culture, to focus on the manipulation of festival culture by cultural subject, to explore the logic and rules of the operation of the festival, and to reveal the key issue in the process of protecting festival cultural place. The introduction part of the paper introduces the object of study, thesis background, review of relevant research, as well as the theoretical perspective and realistic significance of the thesis. The explanation of ethnographic field work research and data sources is also provided. The body of the paper which consists of three chapters, from chapter two to chapter four, discusses the heritage and protection problems of traditional ethnic festivals from three aspects: historical construction of festival cultural place, modern revival, heritage and protection of the contemporary. It also indicates that the protection of core symbol and the emphasis on subject of cultural heritage are the key issues of inheriting and protecting traditional ethnic festival cultural space, but excessive commercialization of ethnic festival should be prevented. |
