Liu Zongyuan, an outstanding thinker, litterateur and philosopher of Tang Dynasty, is especially well-known as a litterateur. His literary works have especially high value in the development and utilization of curriculum resources. This paper only focuses on his four kinds of works:biographies, fables, travel notes and poems. His biographies and prose are narrative, with concise language and vivid characterization; his travel notes arc a fusion of feelings with the natural scenery, in which the description of scenery is vivid and beyond the prototype and the language is beautiful; his fables are short in length and profound in the meanings and have diverse and typical artistic images, humorous style and sharp criticism; his poetry is good at using simple language to express strong feelings and abounds in masterpieces. Under the guidance of the idea of the new curriculum reform, this study consciously focuses on the research and development of Liu Zongyuan’s literary works as a local Chinese curriculum resource of Liuzhou, in order to improve the students’reading ability, to let the students master the basic characteristics of biographical works, to promote students’understanding of the broad and profound Chinese culture, to cultivate students’noble patriotism, and to improve their language literacy comprehensively through practicing.This paper consists six parts:The introduction part introduces the origin, the present situation, the definition of relevant concepts, and the significance and methods of the research.The first part is the introduction of the background of Liu Zongyuan, which briefly descripts Liu Zongyuan’s experiences and his success and failures in politics, aiming at understanding Liu Zongyuan.The second part is a brief analysis on the content and artistic characteristics of Liu Zongyuan’s literary works. This chapter briefly introduces the content of the four types of his literary works (biographies, fables, travel notes and poetry), and summarizes the artistic features of these four types of literary works.The third part is the analysis of the background and value of the development and utilization of Liu Zongyuan’s literary works as the local resources of Chinese curriculum. Liuzhou has rich curriculum resources. In the background of the foreign culture shock and the new curriculum reform, the development and utilization of Liu Zongyuan’s literary works has an important value of culture and education.The fourth part provides a feasible strategy on how to develop the literature works of Liu Zongyuan, designs elective courses of biographical works reading and the Chinese comprehensive practice courses of "Liu Zongyuan and Liuzhou", and analyzes on the two courses.The conclusion part analyzes the advantages of bringing the local curriculum resources into middle school classroom, and sums up the deficiencies of this paper.
