A Report On C-E Translation Of "Instructions On Building Shandong Peninsular Blue Economic Zone"

The construction of Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone is an important part of national marine and regional development strategy. Based on the Development Plan for Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone, Shandong provincial government issued the Instructions on Building Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone (hereinafter referred to as the Instructions). The Instructions points out the great significance and makes clear the general requirements and basic ideas of building Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone. Then it illustrates the overall deployment about how to build Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone in four aspects. With the deepening of globalization, countries all around the world pay more attention to China. Since there is still no official English version of the Instructions which is an important way for foreigners to learn about the development process and strategy of China, the author selects the Instruction as the translation project.This report analyzes the characteristics and translation strategies of governmental public document based on the translation practice of Instructions. The main contents of the report are as follows:the first part is the preparations before translating, including project introduction, the selection of original text and the retrieval of related texts; the second part is the analysis of the original text based on the Functionalist Translation Theory, including the brief introduction of Functionalist Translation Theory and the characteristics of governmental public document; the third part is the illustration of strategies used in translation process with vivid examples; the conclusion summarizes the whole translation project and further research to be done in order to improve the translation quality of this type of writing by amending the deficiency in the translation project.
