Chinese characters teaching to foreigners is the foundation of teaching Chinese as a foreign language(TCFL), and also recognized as the difficulty. Therefore, dredging the bottleneck of Chinese characters teaching to foreigners is an important aspect of Chinese teaching as a foreign language to improve teaching effectiveness. How to effectively improve the efficiency of Chinese character teaching to foreigners and solve problems in Chinese character teaching to foreigners, has been the difficulty and problem to be solved in TCFL study. But for a long time, indo-european language teaching mode has occupied the mainstream of Chinese character teaching to foreigners mode. So in order to reverse the embarrassing situation of Chinese character teaching to foreigners, we should realize the importance of Chinese characters teaching to foreigners and explore various effective strategies and methods used in Chinese character teaching to foreigners. Chinese character teaching to foreigners should combine the learner’s ability of cognitive and thinking with the characteristics and laws of Chinese characters to teach.Article20of chapter2of National Law of Commonly Used Spoken and Written Language promulgated On October31,2000, is saying:"TCFL ought to teach putonghua and standard Chinese characters."[See page4in Standard Language Manual.] General Standardized Chinese Character List made to carry out the National Law of Commonly Used Spoken and Written Language and promote the standardization of general language can provide standards for Chinese characters teaching to foreigners. TCFL teachers should not only be familiar with that list, but also have the knowledge base of original meaning and traceability about the Chinese characters to teach Chinese characters by fully using the law of the Chinese characters.General Standardized Chinese Character List is our latest comprehensive standard about Chinese characters, and8105words showed in the list are contemporary general standardized Chinese characters in our country. This paper taking the original meaning and commonly used meaning of Chinese characters form Shuowen Jiezi, Modern Chinese Dictionary and so on as reference, test and analyze the relationship between original meaning and commonly used meaning of all8105Chinese characters of General Standardized Chinese Character List. And I hope that this paper can offer reference and enlightenment for the actual Chinese character teaching to foreigners.This paper mainly includes the following content:The first part is "Introduction", mainly about selecting reason, research status, research methods, the test principle, test standard of the topic, and on this basis, instructing the innovation points, theoretical significance and application value of the topic, and also involving the introduction of general standardized Chinese characters and the General Standardized Chinese Character List.The second part "Research Principles and Methods of the Relationship between Original Meaning&Commonly Used Meaning" is to introduce the study methods, check principles and check standards in details. Research methods used in this paper have lasted contrast method, test check analysis, objective description method, summarized method, data statistics, and so on. Specific test principles and standards are combined with the original meaning selection and commonly used meaning selection to analyze.The third part "Detailed Analysis of Relationship between Original Meaning&Commonly Used Meaning" is the exhaustiveness static description about the original meaning and commonly used meaning of8105characters of General Standardized Chinese Character List. Firstly, We divided the8105characters into "ancient Chinese characters" and "modern Chinese characters" at the macro level, and then divided the "ancient Chinese characters" into "characters included in Shuowen Jiezi; and "characters not included in Shuowen Jiezi’, then from three types of characters the single tone characters, polyphone characters, merging characters, and on the basis of three relations about matching, relating, independent to do diachronic comparison analysis and exposition in detail of original meaning and commonly used meaning of Chinese characters. And, at last, make statistics and generalizations on all the basis of all kinds of relationship between Chinese characters.The fourth part "Several Research Data about the Relationship between Original Meaning&Commonly Used Meaning" is primarily through some forms of intuitive and comprehensive to analyze various situations and specific data about General Standardized Chinese Character List received characters, including the distribution of the relationship between original meaning and commonly used meaning, situation of reference books including characters, the distribution of three levels characters, and analyzing the original meaning and commonly used meaning changing route and the reason defined on this basis.The fifth part of "The Application of the Study on the Relationship between Original Meaning&Commonly Used Meaning about General Standardized Chinese Character in Chinese Character Teaching to Foreigners" is to apply the survey results of the front parts to Chinese character teaching to foreigners, which looked for strategy of Chinese character teaching to foreigners from two perspectives of TCFL teachers and international students with different cultural background.The sixth part is "conclusion", summarizing the main content of this paper, briefly stated the main research results of this paper.
