Abstract/Summary:
Quine (Willard Van Orman Quine,1908-2000), American famous contemporary philosophers and logicians. Logical analysis and the combination of traditional pragmatism is the basic characteristics of Quine’s philosophy. Quine also agreed to the argument that the task of philosophy is the logical analysis of scientific language, but he is against the logical positivism analysis about truth and integrated it strictly distinguish between point of view as well as the principle of empirical verification, he thinks this is the Two Dogmas of Empiricism. He doesn’t agree with logical positivism ideas about ontology is meaningless metaphysics, ontology and scientific problems is the same, accept a scientific theory is a kind of ontological commitment. Quine’s criticism of two dogmas of empiricism and expounds the ontological commitment, highlights the logic of his new view of pragmatism. Quine emphasis on the philosophy of the systematic and structured analysis, argues that the general philosophical questions when put it in a system within the framework of language. He thinks that ontological question is like any scientific theory, also is a kind of convenient for scientific choice of language form and the problem of conceptual framework, so as its choice of standard should not be to is consistent with objective reality, it is whether should be convenient and useful. This view is the combination of logical empiricism and pragmatism. Quine’s philosophy is based on the framework, the logic basis for natural language view and behaviorism theory of meaning, the theme of naturalizing epistemology theoretical system of the center of the thesis.
