A Translation Report On Science And Politics(Excerpts Of Chapter Seven)

This translation report is an excerpt from chapter seven of science and politics (The Scientist and the Problems of Power:The Discovery of Responsibility), it is an academic treatise on politics and science, and it has no Chinese version. We can even hardly find anything related to this book or any introduction of the author. With the accelerating steps of China’s integration into the world, to understand foreign development and the theory of politics and science is very necessary, translation of the book could be used to enrich the Chinese version of politics and science works and make contribution to the studies of foreign science and politics, at the same time, for a student major in MTI, translation practice of this category requires richer experience for its professional quality and authoritativeness which can improve our translation level. The translator will put forward some of her views on translation based on the translation of this book.This thesis is divided into four parts. The first part is about the task and stylistic features of this translation practices which are analyzed from aspects of personal background and task descriptions etc. The second part is detailed description of the process of this translation practice which includes preparation before translating, the translating process and correcting after translation. The third part is the translation methods the translator adopted in translating which is summarized from four aspects with examples. First, the transliteration and paraphrasing translation methods used in translating of person’s names. Second, popular translation of the target language method is used to deal with the translation of professional words in politics and science. Third, the reverse translation and recombination method are adopted to deal with the translating of the long and difficult sentences. Fourth, the faithful translation adopted in translating of annotation. The fourth part is written about the problems the translator hasn’t solved which is the inaccuracy translation of professional words, the question of the popularity of the translation and the contradiction of coherence and faithfulness.
