Folk belief is a culture pattern of a group of people.It’s always reflected in theritual behavior. Ritual music is the major field of folk music studies."ask for qi guniang " has a long history in Xiangxi. For the “Witch” factor it has been regarded assuperstition. In the process of modernization,"ask for qi gu niang " has beenmarginalized gradually, many places have been hard to find. I chose Gaowangjie aborder zone of waxiang people and Hmong be my site.I will concern the structuresand changes of this event, as well as the feature of local folk belief narrative.Gaowangjie Township is located in the northern of Guzhang County, mainlyinhabited the waxiang people and Hmong.Two ethnic group living in the sameadministrative district established reciprocity, mutual relations in the historicalprocess." ask for qi gu niang " is their tradition custom in the first month of each year.However, so far," ask for qi gu niang " has not been attention by Musicology field.Folklorists’s Zigu belief system study show that " ask for qi gu niang " can be tracedback to our country Zigu folk beliefs. Different place has its own characteristics. Theritual in Xiangxi area combined the ritual with fairy tale Qixiannv, formed a Chu styleceremony.This thesis is based on the field work, build a musical ethnography. SystemInquiry "ask for qi gu niang " historical context, given a structural analysis of theritual, explain the ritual music and to explore the interaction of these elements. Tryingto prove the following conclusions:"ask for qi gu niang " is a common cultural matter of Waxiangren and Hmonggroups. Same ritual behaviour Maintain the emotional of people, reflecting the socialrelations, furthermore it’s a cultural performances in their history, it became aconstantly dynamic social memory. In the process of modernization the mystique inthe ritual gradually fade.
