As an intellectual giant of ancient Greece, Aristotle had a profound impact onthe history of philosophy. He had discussed the friendship, whether the ancient periodof friendship that based on personal foundation,or the classical period of friendshipwhich on the basis of law, both have important reference value to the modern socialinterpersonal relationship and Man’s all-around development. The original content of Aristotle’s civic friend is profound and multi-level, and ithas an important realistic meaning. However,to his theory of civic friendship, academic circles didn’t give enough exploration, even hardly reveal the theoreticalconnotation and value. The main academic results on the legal and politicalsignificance of Aristotle’s civic friendship are interpreted from the aspects of law andpolitical science. And,it failed to give research about the essential connotation and theessence of the original contribution of the moral virtue’s theory. Then,it requirespeople’s system study from philosophical level.Based on this, this article explores the forming foundation, basic content, thecorresponding evaluation and significance.Among them, the forming foundation isdiscussed by analyzing the social foundation and ideological basis of the ancientGreek civic friendship. In terms of basic content,by comparing the politic friendshipand civic friendship to define civic friendship;by analyzing the social justice, the mostessential level of civic friendship and the correlative happiness to reveal the essenceof the idea as eudaimonia friendship;and emphatically analyzes its impact in thepolitical community and business community. The rational and negative of its contentare evaluated in the article. And,its significance is explored from the development oflater philosophy, the progress of later humanitarian and the development of later civicvirtue and civil society.Of course,Aristotle’s civic friendship still has important value in modernsociety, but also has some shortcomings. Therefore, this paper puts forward anobjective and dialectical view of his ideas of civic friendship, absorbing its positivethoughts, and eliminating the negative thoughts.
