An Evaluation On Translation Of Government Work Report In Cultural Perspective

The paper mainly comments on the translation of the Government Work Report(hereafter referred to as GWR) from cultural perspective. By means of literatureresearch on the relationship between culture and language, and the relationshipbetween culture and translation, the author agrees that language is a culture, andcarries culture. Translation can realize culture communication via switch betweenlanguages. Referring to Nida’s classification of culture, the author analyzes thelanguage features in GWRs2009-2013and considers that the condensed yetinformative language itself in GWR reflects Chinese language culture. Then the authorsummarizes translation methods such as, literal translation, literal translation plusannotation, free translation, addition, omission, back translation from culturalperspective. Finally, the author discusses personal ability in translating GWR. Theauthor deems that the adoption of foreignization fully considers the receptivity of thetarget readers and enhances the readability of translation, meanwhile, showstranslator’s culture sense and creativity. Translators in translating GWR need to bepolitically-aware, bilingual, and constantly enrich culture knowledge, which may shedlight on MTI students’ professional study and practice.
