The Syntactic Priming Effect Of End Weight Principle In English

The production proccss of scntcncc is an import￡uit problem in psycholinguisticresearch field. About the language output hypothesis is mainly rodviced by the processof language production and language foaris its own. Syntactic priming effect is one ofthe characteristics in the process of sentence production,that is the syntax use will beinfluenced by the syntax which is previously processed. This repetition effects tend toreduce the operation cost and psychological load, which accorded with the principleof economy in language output. End weight principle as English habitual expressionis another characteri sties of the sentence producti on process，which is the tendency ofputting heavy element at the end of the sentence. This rule also reduce the cognitiveload which is according to the economic principle of language output. Syntacticpriming effect and the end weight principle is the characteristics of languageproduction has shown, bccomc a common strategy for people to study the rules ofsentence production. However，previous researches have discussed these two aspectsrespectively and never researched tliem synchronously. On this basis, combining withthe habitual expression of syntactic priming effect, designed three experiments tostudy habitual expression on the effect of syntactic priming effect, has certainsignificance to study the psychological process of language production.The ifrst experiment observes the end weight principle in no priming conditionperformance; The result show that, for sentences containing heavy elements, try tochoose more double object syntax sentence makes heavy component post, followedthe end weight principle. In experiment two，joined the syntactic priming condition, todetect whether the weighting sentence will be influenced by the syntactic primingeffect; results show that the influence of syntactic priming, and it shows the sameresult with previous research, while the heavy sentence has not been influenced, stillchoose the double object sentence fixed, abide by the end weight principle. Inexperiment three, according to the syntactic priming effect of verbs，furtherinvestigation on the effect of syntactic priming effects; results show that lexical rolein high level learners of English simple sentence effect is signiifcant, but the effectdid not enhance syntactic priming effect on heavy sentence starting, the heavy sentence followed the end weight principle stablely.The experimental results show that, syntactic priming effect is influenced by thetype of scntcncc md the habitual expression. Simple scntcnccs tend to produccsyntactic priming effect, consistent with the existing research conclusions. With heavyconstituents of sentences, syntactic priming effect of psychological facilitation did notmake the heavy components of displacement, that is no priming effect. This studyshows that, the sentences production process in human brain follows the principle ofeconomy, syntactic priming effect and end weight principle are closely related to theexistence of economic output of the sentence, both in a particular situation these twocould make the automatic control^relative to a more economical way to guidelanguage processing and sentence production.
