The Research Of The Transitional Characteristic Of The Official Ware’s Blue And White Porcelain In Hongwu Period

Hongwu period is the transition period between Yuan and Ming, it not onlyinherited the porcelain craft of Yuan Dynasty, but also affect the porcelain style inYongle, which shows obvious transition characteristics with a clear transitioncharacteristics. This article is divided into four chapters"Time of the Ming Dynastyimperial factory established","Official ware and characteristics of the official ware inearly Ming"" Overview of the official ware’s blue and white porcelain in Hongwu,""The transitional characteristicoftheofficialware’sblue and white porcelain in Hongwu".The first chapter makes a brief overview of the four statements about the timeimperial wares set up by synthesizing related literatures. The second chapter defines theword "official ware", and sums up three major characteristics of official ware in earlyMing Dynasty. The third chapter makes an introduction of the quantity and collectionorganizations of the official ware’s blue and white porcelain in Hongwu. The lastchapter, as the focus of this article, is divided into two sections which named "Theinheritance and innovation of the blue and white porcelain in Yuan Dynasty" and "Theinfluence on blue and white porcelain in Yongle of Ming Dynasty", and they elaboratesthe transitional characteristic of the official ware’s blue and white porcelain in Hongwufrom shape, body and glaze, cobalt and ornamentation four aspects. In the aspect ofshape, Hongwu porcelain inherites the porcelain in Yuan dynasty and improves,although the evolution of shape is not perfect, but lays the foundation for Yongleporcelain, which plays an important role on connecting between Yuan Dynasty andYongle of Ming Dynasty. In the aspect of body and glaze, the quality of Hongwuporcelain is higher than that of the Yuan Dynasty, and the quality of Yongle porcelainis higher than that of Hongwu. The porcelain technology of Hongwu makes greatprogress from the Yuan Dynasty, which is not completely mature, but it makes greatcontribution for y the peak of porcelain technology in Yongle and Xuande of Ming Dynasty. In the aspect of cobalt, the cobalt of blue and white porcelain in Yuan Dynastyis "Su Ma Li Qing" which is imported from Islam and looks bright and green; the cobaltof Hongwu also has low manganese and high iron,but it looks grey; Yongle also use"Su Ma Li Qing", which looks dense and beautiful. Black iron spots usually appears onit. In the aspect of ornamentation, craftmen have freedom on creation in Yuan Dynasty.There are variety of subjects, and the composition of ornamentation is variegated. InYongle, the freedom of creation is limited, and ornamentation lay emphasis up on thetheme of flowers, which is loosened. It can be easily seen that Hongwu’s transitionalfunction between Yuan and Ming Dynasty.To sum up, Hongwu, which is between Yuan Dynasty and Yongle, shows distincttransitional characteristics on shape, body and glaze, cobalt and ornamentation fouraspects.
