In the Qing dynasty, the debate between Tang and Song Poetry was one of themost important phenomenon of the poetics. The result was that Song Poetry got rid ofthe minor role and started being a comparative subject to Tang Poetry, which revealedthat Song Poetry challenged the mastery status of Tang poetry and made a greatdifference. It that period, the Song Poetics and Song Poems Movement were takingplace. What’s more, a lot of books of Song Poems were produced and spread quickly,which contributed the development of research of Song Poems and made the resultimpressive.Zhao Yi, a representative member of “Soul Party”,was born in Qianlong andJiaqing period and was called as “the second senior person” of the party by WangYingzhi. The enthusiasm of Song Poetry in panassus also affected this scholar. Whenthe debate upon Tang and Song Poetry was at its height, Zhao Yi set himself apartfrom others and rated the same value of Song Poetry as Tang Poetry. Not only wasZhao Yi a poet, but also he was a poetry theorist and a historian. Through his life, heexperienced complicated ups and downs in his official career and also enjoyed hispeaceful village time. After he quit from his official career and returned hishometown, he entertained himself with writing based on deep historical knowledge,wide vision and spirit of seeking truth without any tatus prejudice, therefore, hecreated a great of works. Zhao Yi’s sensible views on Song Poetry was generallyexpressed in his poetic theoretical work of Oubei Poetics, which was finished in theseventh year in Jiaqing period(1802), and some other criticizing poems. Theoutstanding character of his views on Song Poetry was opposing to the argument of“prosper the ancient but strike the present”and emphasizing creative spirit, which hadpositive significance in the study of Song Poetry in Qing dynasty.This thesis was designed to study all aspects of Zhao Yi’s views on Song Poetrysystematically and completely with open eyes. It was based on collecting relativematerials and data base as much as possible. After thoroughly studying Zhao Yi’stheoretical work and views on Song Poetry in his poems. In order to excavate ideological essence and contribute for the study on Zhao Yi for the future generations,it analyzed from historical formation context of Zhao Yi’s poetic ideas, reformingviews and style theory of Song poetry, the debate between Tang and Song poetry, andinfluence and historical status of his views.
