As one of the most outstanding authors in the contemporary American short story,Raymond Carver has established his own Literature Field through continuousdeconstruction and construction of literature works. When it comes to RaymondCarver, people tend to label him as a Minimalist, whose Minimalist style has beenwidely accepted. However, the reason for Raymond Carver’s success to establish hisown unique literary school in the Literature Field is not his literary works alone butthe combination of the internal factor, namely, his literary works and the externalfactors including the production mechanism such as the literary works’ publication,the propagation mechanism of modern media, the criticism mechanism of differentschools and the literature history mechanism making the classical literature works stepinto the history. All the mentioned factors contributing to Raymond Carver’s successabove share one thing in common: they all make full use of their own rights toconstruct, deconstruct and re-construct Raymond Carver’s literary works, whichfinally leads to the temporary agreement of the literary discourse.Firstly, this article will discuss the influence of Carve on the formation ofLiterary Field, the rights owned by Carve during the formation of Literary Field andthe efforts of these rights in turn on the formation of Literary Field. Since differentreaders,namely, the amateur and the professional, have different ways to constructand deconstruct Carve’s works, this article will also discuss their different influenceson the formation of Carve’s Literary Field. At the same time, this article will explorehow the literature history mechanism contribute to the Raymond Carve’s LiteraryFiled. During the production of literary works, Carve is entitled rights to choose thecorrelative raw materials, free to adopt writing styles and narrative strategies, whichlay the foundation for his Literary Field. However, due to the interference of modernediting system, Carve’s rights to make the literary works is limited. Obviously,Carve’s editor has interfered in his writing to a great degree. What’s more, onceCarve’s works come into the criticism circle, it transforms from the subject to object.Namely speaking, the critics become the judges judging Carve’s works. Naturally,there is mutual interaction between Carve and the critics, which deeper contributes tothe formation of Carve’s Literary Field. Therefore, the literature history mechanismplays a role to summarize Carve’s Literary Field temporarily instead of defining itonce and for all. All in all, the establishment of Carve’s Literary Field is the result of differentforces. The topic that which school his works should belong to, and his widereputation in literature field will be discussed by the later critics continuously. It is thecritics’ continuous hot discussion that contributes to the prosperity of Carve’sLiterature Field.
