The Mystery of the Missing Will is the second novel of “Mayor Mystery Series”written by Canadian female writer Jeni Mayor. This novel won the Manitoba YoungReader’s Choice Award in1995. The author, based on the translation of the first fivechapters of this novel, completed this report through the research and summary of thistranslation practice. In the process of this practice, on the basis of full comprehension of the sourcetext, the author adopted various translation methods and techniques to translate thesource text, analyzed the target text and summarized the merits of the target text. Inthe meantime, the author sorted out and dissected the problems in the translation, namely the problems on the translation of verbs, interjections and complicatedsentences, and applied extension, diction and reorganization to solve these problems.Through the research of this translation practice, the settlement and summary ofproblems, the author has learned further knowledge about the translation of children’sliterature and been more aware of her shortcomings and the qualities of being atranslator. In the future study and work, the author will improve the languagecompetence and the flexibility in use of the translation skill, and expand the scope ofknowledge. The author hopes that this translation can enrich the cases of thetranslation of children’s literature and that, if possible, this report can give referenceto other translators who encounter the similar problems in the future.
