Attitude can embodyconsciousness of culture and thought can express a duty of caring about the society.Only such artist work with attitude and thought can take more responsibility for ourtimes.Joon-ho Bong is such a director in the movies field.Joon-ho Bong is a flag among the Korean movie practitioners who goes out ofKorea to the world stage. He can combine art and commerce perfectly which can rarelybe seen in the Asian movie area. His movies, with fascinating suspense plot, exquisitestory structure and mysterious imagination, reached a great success with Korean highticket office record. However, he is not satisfied with success in traditional moviesbecause he has an intense desire to show his opinion on society which is frank, realisticand thought-provoking.We can see in his movies that he can sense deeply the history and temporary statusof Korean society. Every movie is a metaphor on the exploitation of the director intoissues of Korean society in different historical times. This is the distinct personalcharacteristic of Joon-ho Bong being critical in commercial movies. Therefore, whatJoon-ho Bong touches audience with is not only the quality of movies, but also theresponsibility behind movies which is affecting and charming.The essay shows a Joon-ho Bong’s movie world outside screen by summarizingJoon-ho Bong’s movie work in combination with movie theory, introducing Joon-hoBong’s personal experiences, analyzing audio and video language and interpretingmovie cultural meanings. For this purpose, I will research on the following aspects:Thefirst part is an introduction of Joon-ho Bong’s growing background and his movies. Acomplete understanding of Joon-ho Bong can help grab context of his movies. Thesecond part is the main body of the essay, analyzing thoroughly the content of Joon-hoBong’s movies with reference to movies theory and concluding his creation style. Thethird part summarizes Joon-ho Bong’s thought about society in his movies. The fourthpart is a relative creative part, bring my thought and opinion about what Chinesedirectors can learn from Bong Joon ho’s movies together with comparing Chinese andforeign directors.From my personal perspective, the reason for choosing Joon-ho Bong for my research is my deep obsession with [Barking Dogs Never Bite][Memories of Murder][Mother] directed by Joon-ho Bong and my resonating with him on the responsibilityto caring about social issues.
