The Revision Of The Self-Compassion Scale For College Students And The Applied Research

Self-compassion involves being open to and moved by one’s own suffering,experiencing feelings of caring and kindness toward oneself, taking an understanding,nonjudgmental attitude toward one’s inadequacies and failures, and recognizing thatone’s own experience is part of the common human experience. Self-compassion wassignificantly correlated with mental health. Results showed that:(1)The formalversion of SCS consisted of6dimensions, including26items.(2)The Cronbach’sAlpha of dimensions and the total scale were0.64-0.87. Six factors were obtainedfrom exploratory factor analysis, accounting for over55.09%of the total variance;confirmatory factor analysis indicated that AGFI、CFI、NNFI ranged from0.85to0.94,and RMSEA was0.059.(3)SCS developed in the present study attains acceptablepsychometric properties.At the same time,942students from8universities in Nanchang were randomlychoesn as the participants. The Big Five Inventory (BFI), Self-Compassion Scale(SCS) and Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) were used to study the relationship ofcollege students’ personality, self-compasson with anxiety. The results revealed thatthe global state of self-compassion is in good shape; college students’ five factorpersonality, self-compassion and anxiety were significantly correlative. Meanwhile,self-compassion and personality were the distinct predictors for anxiety, andself-compassion was a mediator between personality and anxiety.Finnaly, by using the group counseling method, the author improved the self-compassion level of those freshmem who have problems in adopting to their university lives. The results show that: firstly, team counseling method is efficient in improvingpeople’s self-conpassion level.
