In order to provide proof for the medical use of its extract, the characters of Schisandra Carpopodium were investigated in this thesis. Furthermore, the systematic studies on the preparation technology, chemical constituents and quality control methods of the standardized extract of Schisandra Carpopodium were also included. The morphologic characters, microscopic characters, the behavior on thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and chemical identification methods of Schisandra Carpopodium were investigated. The contents of total lignans and schisandrin of Schisandra Carpopodium originated from different habitats were also determined.Using the content of total lignanoids as index, the extraction technology was optimized by orthogonal experiments with the factors of the quantity and concentration of ethanol, reflux time and extraction times. Then, the purification procedure of the standardized extract by macroporous adsorption resin chromatography was systematic studied. The type of resin, elution gradient, sample concentration, diameter-height ratio and flow rate were determined.Ten compounds were isolated from the standardized extract of Schisandra Carpopodium by means of silica gel column chromatography, preparation TLC, Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, preparation HPLC and recrystallization. Their structures were identified asβ-sitosterol (1), (±)-γ-schisandrin (2), schisandrol B (3), schisandrin (4), (-)-gomisin M1 (5), (-)-gomisin L1 (6), schisandrin C (7), schisantherin B (8), gomisin G (9) and pre-gomisin (10) by comparing their properties ([α]D and 1H-NMR) with the reported values in the literature or by comparison with authentic samples. All of the compounds were separated from Schisandra Carpopodium for the first time.Quality control methods including TLC, ultraviolet spectrophotometry and HPLC were established to evaluate the quality of the standardized extract of Schisandra Carpopodium. In addition, the contents of ash, heavy metals as well as the moisture were examined according to the methods on Chinese Pharmacopoeia.
