backgroundThe occurrence and development of chronic periodontitis is a combined effects, The most serious manifestation of periodontal disease is the loss of periodontal tissue, deep periodontal pocket, and alveolar bone absorption, With the intensive study of periodontal disease, the study of the periodontal tissue that promotes and prevents the destruction of periodontal tissue is a common concern of the periodontal doctors, The roles of nerve and neuropeptides in the process of bone formation and remolding have been studied previously. At present, it is extremely important to overcome the difficulty of nerve and blood vessel regeneration in bone tissue engineering and guided periodontal tissue regeneration. Neuropeptide play a critical role in all tissue engineering. The discovery of calcitonin gene related peptide in the periodontal tissues. After that, its affect in the study of neuropeptide substances have been paid more and more attention. CGRP in fracture healing experiments can be combined with bone tissue CGRP receptors regulate osteoblast and osteoclast function, involved in bone growth, repair and remodeling. CGRP is the strongest endogenous neuropeptide, dilation of blood vessels and induction of angiogenesis, which can increase blood circulation and promote the form action of new bone. Absorbed alveolar bone is typical clinical manifestations of chronic periodontitis patients, but existing techniques have failed to regenerative therapy significantly improved alveolar bone destruction condition of the patient, especially in extensive horizontal absorption. The consequence showed that the volume of new bone formation was not significantly difference between the experimental and control groups, but the mineralized new bone area between the two groups was statistically significant. Therefore, the periodontal doctors put forward the hypothesis that CGRP can also take part in the regulation of alveolar bone remodeling after the destruction of periodontitis. Objectives To explore clinical significance of CGRP levels before and after the treatment in patients with chronic periodontitis, with byenzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) to detect the calcitonin gene-related peptide content In the human venous blood. The concentration of CGRP in patients with chronic periodontitis detection in peripheral blood by ELISA and the concentration variation before and after periodontal treatment on chronic periodontitis patients, the serum change and significance of calcitonin gene related peptide. Methods the healthy control group of 30 people, mild periodontitis, moderate periodontitis, severe periodontitis patients with 30 people were enrolled from April to August 2014 until June 2015,Fasting peripheral venous blood centrifugation supernatant, using 1.5ml Ep tube for packaging frozen, The content of CGRP in the patients’ peripheral blood were detected by ELISA.Three months after the Periodontal therapy, The same method was used to detect the CGRP.Then, the statistical analysis of the data using SPSS software. Results The content of calcitonin gene related peptide in healthy group was significantly higher than patients with periodontitis. With the aggravation of periodontal inflammation, Blood levels of CGRP reduced, and the severe periodontitis patients was the lowest(P<0.01). For mild periodontitis, moderate periodontitis and severe periodontitis patients treated after 3 months, compared the content of CGRP in serum with the group before terapy significantly increased(P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in CGRP concentration between the two groups after treatment in patients with chronic periodontitis(P) 0.05.)Conclusion The content of calcitonin gene related peptide in venous blood decreased with the increase of chronic periodontitis, and CGRP was negatively correlated with the degree of inflammation of chronic periodontitis. CGRP may be have to do with the development and progression of chronic periodontitis. After periodontal treatment, periodontal inflammation is controlled,CGRP content in serum of patients with chronic periodontitis was significantly increased, CGRP may be used as the basis for clinical detection of chronic periodontitis patients before and after treatment.
