Aims To assess the efficacy and safety of Mitraclip therapy for mitral regurgitation(MR) treatment. Methods Electronic databases were searched for published clinical trial studies on percutaneous therapies for MR according to a Meta-analysis method to extract effective data and evaluate the outcome indicators using Rev Man 5.0 and Stata softwares. Results Overall, 2,545 publications were identified, and 6 clinical trials including 428 patients enrolled after screening. We directly compared clinical outcomes of the post-procedure with the pre-procedure. The follow-up results demonstrated that Mitraclip therapy reduced regurgitation and significantly improved the NYHA classification and extended the 6MWD to134.11 ± 11.97 meters. A transthoracic echocardiography also showed that the LVEDV and LVEDD were decreased 0.33 ± 0.23 ml and 0.43 ± 0.21 mm, respectively(P < 0.05). However, the changes in NT-pro BNP, LVEF, LVESV, LVESD and LAV showed no significant difference. Safety was also confirmed for the acute procedure success(APS) at a rate of 90.2%. The mortality of the procedure and short-term follow-up was 2.1%.Conclusions This study indicates that Mitraclip therapy is a safe and feasible treatment in patients with severe MR who are at a high risk for surgical repair. Mitraclip therapy can relieve symptoms, reverse cardiac remodeling, and improve exercise tolerance, NYHA function class, and mitral regurgitation. In addition, the procedure had low morbidity and mortality.
