ObjectiveTo study the effect of osteoporosis on the amount of blood loss after unilateral total knee arthroplasty in elderly women.MethodsEighty-four cases of female patients who took unilateral total knee arthroplasty for treatment were screened out, the average age of 66.81 years. According to the preoperative bone mineral density(BMD) T-scores, patients were divided into three groups, group A(n=38) T-scores≤-2.5SD, B group(n=30)-2.5SD< T-scores <-1.0SD, group C(n=16) T-scores≥-1.0SD. The age, height, weight, the intraoperative blood loss, the postoperative drainage volume, preoperative hematocrit, postoperative hematocrit and BMD T-scores were recorded. Total blood loss, dominant blood loss, hidden blood loss and total blood loss percentage of blood volume were calculated in each group of patients, which accord to the corresponding formulas, using analysis of variance. BMD and total blood loss take the unary linear regression analysis.ResultsThe BMD of the old female patients with total blood loss after TKA was negatively correlated(r=-0.30, P=0.003). The total blood loss in A,B,C three groups respectively(970.88±260.62)m L,(797.22±256.40)m L,(728.99±277.89)m L, the hidden blood loss was(732.46±266.31)m L,(543.38±240.18)m L,(486.49±270.87)m L, three groups of the total blood loss percentage of blood volume were(22.79±6.68)%,(21.95±7.51)%,(19.93±8.12)%. In total blood loss, hidden blood loss and blood loss volume percentage, A group were significantly higher than those in B group and C group(P<0.05); A, B, C three groups of dominant blood loss were(238.42±129.21)m L,(253.83±139.47)m L,(242.50±120.31)m L, no statistical difference between the three groups(P>0.05).ConclusionOsteoporosis can increase the total blood loss and hidden blood loss after total knee arthroplasty in elderly women.
