Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the survival outcomes of adenocarcinoma(AC) and squamous cell carcinoma(SCC) of the cervix. Methods: We searched PubMed,The Cochrane Library,Ovid and Embase for studies that compared the outcomes of two histologic subtypes.Hazards ratios(HRs) with 95% confidence intervals(CIs) were calculated using the Stata 12.0.Results: A total of 17 studies were included in this analyses, all studies were retrospective cohort study. The disease-special survival rate was significantly lower in AC compare with SCC(HR 1.29,95%CI: 1.15—1.44). The overall survival rate of AC decreased compared with SCC, but the difference was not significant(HR 1.16, 95% CI : 0.93—1.38). The overall survival rate(HR 1.10, 95%CI:0.82—1.38) and the recurrence-free survival rate(HR 1.21,95%CI:0.89—1.54) of the AC was not significantly poorer for the clinical stages I and II compare with SCC. For clinical stage III and IV in particular, AC predicted significantly poor overall survivalrate compare with SCC(HR 1.21,95%CI:1.10—1.32).Conclusion: There is no significant difference in the prognosis of the early stage AC(I-II) compare with SCC. The prognosis of patients with advanced AC was significantly worse than that of SCC.
