Objective: To explore the indications of the common syndactyly release without dermatoplasty, by analyzing the tension of fuesd skin in each segment. Methods: 38 webs with syndactyly who were hospitalized in Children’s Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from May 2013 to May 2015 were included in this study. The evaluating method based on the tension of the fused skin segmentally was used to analyze the relationship between the tension of skin and the complications in 38 cases of the syndactyly release without skin flap, concluded the indications of the common syndactyly release without dermatoplasty, and applied to 10 finger webs in congenital syndactyly to verify the feasibility of these indications. Results: Through the retrospective analysis of 38 cases after 1 to 20 months follow-up, all cases’ fingerweb had satisfactory appearance。2 cases had shallow skin necrosis at distal phalanges and resulted in the nail deformities, and 1 case led to a sunken lateral nail fold. Retrospect the tension of the fused skin,1 case’s distal fused skin was tense、flat and with polydactyly,2 cases’ distal fused skin was tense and retuse. The above 3 cases were proved to be unsuitable for skin grafting in according to our evaluating system. 10 Prospective cases based on the evaluating method had satisfactory functional assessment and web space appearance. Conclusions: The technique of syndactyly release without dermatoplasty is suitable for incomplete syndactyly and some complete syndactyly with loose fused skin, the complete syndactyly with tense skin is the contraindication. Evaluating the tension of the fused skin segmentally before operation could guide the operation.
