Objective: This paper is to identify the ultrasonic image characteristics of sacrococcygeal musculoskeletal system of the normal adult and clarify the high-frequency ultrasonic scanning method of sacrococcygeal musculoskeletal system of the normal adult. Methods:There are thirty healthy adults to participate in the study, including fifteen males and fifteen females. Using Toshiba Aplio 500 high- frequency ultrasonic instrument to scan the normal adult sacrococcygeal structure and record the ultrasonic image of the sacrococcygeal muscle, bone, ligament and blood vessel. Statistics analysis is performed by SPSS statistical analysis software, version 16.0. Both sides of cross-sectional area of musculi multifidus were measured at S1 median sacral crest level in the prone position. The variable was measured three times and was calculated the mean value. For within group analyses(level S1 median sacral crest level)of side differences(left versus right) paired t-tests were carried out to examin for significance differences. The level of significance was set P<0.05. The length, width and height of sacral hiatus were measured by high-frequency ultrasonography. Results:In this study,we have obtained a large number of ultrasonic images of multiple sections of sacrococcygeal musculoskeletal system of the normal adult by regarding median sacral crest, sacral hiatus, foramina sacralia posteriora and ischial spine as anatomic landmarks, specifically describing the ultrasound locations and sonographic features of sacral crest, sacral intermediate crest, cristae sacrales laterales, zygapophyseal joint and articulationes sacroiliaca;amplifying high-frequence ultrasound scanning method, anatomic relationships and sonographic characteristics of vertebra-sacrum-ilium junctional zone; measuring the length, width and height diameter of the sacral hiatus;expliciting the anatomic structure and sonographic characteristics of the great sacrosciatic foramina; describing the starting point, dead point, arrangement and sonographic characteristics of ligamenta sacroiliacum posterius breve, ligamenta sacroiliacum posterius longum, ligament sacrococcygeum dorsale superficiale, ligament sacrococcygeum dorsale profundum, posterior sacrosciatic ligaments, sacrosciatic ligament;measuring both sides of cross-sectional area of sacral multifidus at S1 median sacral crest level and there was no statistically significant difference(P>0.05) between the left and right sides at S1 median sacral crest level.Conclusion:High-frequency ultrasound can be used as the preferred method of imaging examination for normal adult sacrococcygeal musculoskeletal system, and then it is worthy of great promotion in clinical application.
