Objective:Chronic mountain sickness(CMS) has characteristics of polycythemia and hypoxemia, often accompanied by pulmonary hypertension. The exploration of pathogenesis is an important approach to treatment and prevention of the disease. Many scholars have reseached on the relationship between serum erythropoietin(EPO)or testosterone(T) levels with chronic mountain sickness. Some studies have shown that chronic mountain sickness has high levels of serum EPO or T, and some researchs show no correlation between the two.The reseachs have different results,it needs further research on it.For this purpose,we reseach the articles about serum EPO or T level associated with CMS for Meta analysis, and provide the basis for the pathogenesis of CMS. Methods:Retrieving all the case-control studies on the relationship between serum EPO or T level and chronic mountain sickness in WangFang database,China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI), Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, PubMed, Cochranel Library. The retrieval time from the beginning to establish a database to March 2016.Meta-analysis is performed by RevMan 5.1. Results:There are 7 references about EPO and CMS,three of the articles involve in the CMS group compared with plain group, three articles involve in plain and plateau controls. The results of Meta analysis are that EPO level in CMS group is obviously higher than that in the plateaul group.SMD=0.38,95%CI[0.16,0.60],P<0.05;EPO level in CMS group is obviously higher than that in plain group.SMD=1.1,95%CI[ 0.34~1.86],P<0.05;EPO level in plateau group is obviously higher than that in plain group,SMD=1.11,95%CI[0.13~2.08],P<0.05.There are 4 references about T and CMS,three of the articles involve in the CMS group compared with the plain group, three articles involve in plain and plateau controls. The results of Meta analysis are that T level in CMS group is obviously higher than that in plateaul group.SMD=0.44,95%CI[0.19~0.68],P<0.05;T level in CMS group is obviously higher than that in plain group.SMD=0.63,95%CI[0.08~1.19],P<0.05;The difference of T level between plateau group and plain group is not statistically significant.SMD=-0.04,95%CI[-0.16~0.52],P>0.05. Conclusion:Serum EPO may participate in the pathogenesis of CMS;Hb level in(160g/L < Hb < 210g/L) may is not the result of the role of testosterone, when Hb > 210g/L is mainly testosterone effect.
