Objectives:To investigate the humanistic ability status quo of clinical nursing staffs, who work on the tertiary hospitals in Yunnan province, to analyze the factors which are influencing the humanistic caring ability of clinical nurses. Finally, we hope to give some useful proposals for nursing managers to formulate feasible training plan, and provide a reference for further research.Methods:Six tertiary hospitals in Yunnan province were extracted by convenient and random sampling. Among them, there are four in Kunming, the provincial capital city of Yunnan province, the others in the central city of the state administrative. Then according to the stratified sampling method, a number of departments were extracted in each hospital.All of department nursing staffs were asked to write a questionnaire. Ultimately, there are 900 clinical nursing staffs as the research objective. Recycling effective questionnaires are 845. Survey tools include:1. General information questionnaire. Including gender, department, job title, position, education marriage and related data on learn population characteristics.2. Caring Ability Inventory (CAI). It was developed by the American nursing expert Nkongho, and translated into Chinese by domestic scholars Xu Juan, etc. The scale contains 37 items, Likert7 grade evaluation method was used. The higher the score indicates, the stronger the caring ability. The content validity index is 0.78 of the Chinese scale version, and Cronbach’a coefficient is 0.84.Using EpiData3.1 software double input data, output for Excel2007 format after proofreading, import R3.1.1 software to statistical analysis. Some statistical approaches were used, including descriptive statistical analysis, analysis of variance, rank test, correlation analysis, multiple stepwise regression analysis, etc.Results:1. Present status of humanistic caring ability about clinical nurses on tertiary hospitals in Yunnan province:The score of humanistic caring ability was 190.49±21.45, cognitive dimension score was 75.95±10.49, courage dimension score was 55.62±12.67, patient dimension score was 58.92±6.69.All of them are lower than the international norm.2. The influencing factors of humanistic caring ability about clinical nurses of tertiary hospitals in Yunnan province.The differences had statistical significance (P<0.05) through the comparison of caring abilities in each item among only child, position, qualification obtained form, working years, participated in the training, the degree of loving care obtained from family, the degree of loving care obtained from work unit, the degree of loving care obtained from colleagues and whether suffered from a serious illness.The differences had no statistical significance (P>0.05), which through the comparison of caring abilities in each item among age, gender, childhood growth environment, department, job title, employment form, religious belief, education background, personality, marital status, children status.According to the multiple stepwise regression analysis, the main influencing factors of clinical nurses on tertiary hospitals in Yunnan province were:only child, position, qualification obtained form, participated in the training, the degree of loving care obtained from family, the degree of loving care obtained from colleagues and whether suffered from a serious illness.Conclusions:1. The humanistic caring ability about clinical nurses on tertiary hospitals in Yunnan province is lower than that of the international nurses’ caring ability norm. The cultivation of humanistic caring ability should be strengthened.2. The main influencing factors of clinical nurses on tertiary hospitals in Yunnan province were:only child, position, qualification obtained form, participated in the training, the degree of loving care obtained from family, the degree of loving care obtained from colleagues and whether suffered from a serious illness.3. Managers can take some actions to improve clinical nurses’ humanistic caring ability, such as by training humanistic care related knowledge and ability, communicating with nurses, caring to subordinates, posting them and performing responsibility, organizing proper department activities, and so on.
