ObjectiveTo evaluate the efficacy and safety of Self Blood Therapy for the treatment of chronic urticaria with systematic review.MethodsRandomized controlled trials were conducted in Pubmed, Springer Link, CNKI, WanFang Data, The Cochrane Library and CBM on Self Blood Therapy treating Chronic Urticaria from inception to August 2015. Two reviewers independently screened for literature, extracted data and evaluated the quality of the included studies. Then meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3 software.ResultsA total of 15 trials involving 1554 patients were included. Meta-analyses showed that the self blood therapy or the self blood therapy in combination with the other therapies (traditional Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion, cupping and herb tea) seemed higher than antihistamines in the clinical curative effect. The self blood therapy in combination with the antihistamines haven’t differences with antihistamines in the adverse reaction rate. The treatment group lower than controls in the recurrence rate. The before and after treatment of IgE changes between The treatment group and control group were without differences.ConclusionSelf blood therapy safe and effective for the treatment of chronic urticaria. Combineing with the other therapies is more effective than antihistamines and decreases recurrence rate. Combineing with other therapies maybe no increase the risk of adverse reactions. However, due to lack of enough high-quality studies, Self Blood Therapy has to be further studied by conducting more strictly-destined, multicenter, large-scale and double-blind RCTs.
