ObjectiveUse the Virtual Histology Intravascular Ultrasound(VH-IVUS) to identi fy the difference of plaque components between patients with and without phlegm syndrome of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Assess the potential rel ationship between the coronary plaque composition by VH-IVUS and total ch olesterol (TC),total triglyceride(TG), high-density lipoprotein(HDL), low-d ensity lipoprotein(LDL), plaque burden detected by Intravascular Ultrasoun d. Assess the potential relationship between phlegm syndrome of Tradition al Chinese Medicine and TC, TG, HDL, LDL, plaque burden detected by Intravasc ular Ultrasound. Aim to explorer the relationship between the characteris tics of VH-defined vulnerable plaques and phlegm syndrome of Traditional Chinese Medicine.MethodsIt is a cross-sectional study, we observed 48 patients of coronary h eart disease (CHD) who were underwent baseline angiography, IVUS and VH-IVU S at Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine from October 2013 to March 2016. We made a comparison and analysis of cross-sectional area (CSA), extra-elastic membrane(EEM), plaque burden、percentage of fibrous tis sue (FT),percentage of fibrotic (FF),percentage of dense calcium(DC), per centage of necrotic core (NC) between patients who were grouped by differe nt research elements, data were statisticed by SPSS18.0.ResultsFirstly, There is no significantly statistical difference on CSA, EEM, p laque burden, percentage of FT, percentage of FF, percentage of DC and perce ntage of NC between patients with and without phlegm syndrome of Traditio nal Chinese Medicine (P>0.05)Secondly,There is no correlation between phlegm syndrome of Tradition al Chinese Medicine and TC, TG, LDL, HDL, plaque burden (P>0.05).Thirdly,1. Percentage of FT is significantly different among patients grouped by TC (P<0.05). A positive correlation is found between TC and percenta ge of FT (R=0.347, P<0.05)2. Percentage of FF is significantly different among patients groupe d by LDL (P<0.05).The correlation between LDL and percentage of FF is no t linear (P>0.05).Fourthly, CSA and EEM of patients whose plaque burden>70% are signifi cantly different from patients whose plaque burden<70%. A inverse correl ation is found between CSA and plaque burden(R=-0.537, P<0.01);while a po sitive correlation is found between EEM and plaque burden(R=0.395, P<0.0 1).ConclusionNo correlation is found between plaque components and phlegm syndrome of Traditional Chinese Medicine. No correlation is found between phlegm syndrome of Traditional Chinese Medicine and TC, TG, HDL, LDL. Percentage of FT seems to be higher, when one’s TC is higher. Percentage of FF is highe r than the other, when one’s LDL is borderline high. EEM seems to be large r while CSA seems to be smaller, when one’s plaque burden is higher.
