BackgroundPeople’s quality of life and work will be seriously affected, in recent years, with the change of their daily life style such as increasing number of desk working and studying. In addition, people are more likely to keep their neck bow and suffer from wind-cold damp pathogen. Because of the widely spread of PC, phone, book and air condition. Clinicaly, there are many types of treatment for cervical spondylosis, include NSAIDS, surgery and spinal injection. But it is still a challenge that such treatment of great side effect and high cost is not specific and easy to rehabilitat. Acupuncture therapy, with special advantages as diversity, rapid response and high cure rate, is worth to adopt in treating cervical spondylotic radiculopathy in clinic practice.AimIn this study, we started from a diagnosis thinking of whole and local. We also combined abdominal and electronic acupuncture in treating nerve root cervical spondylopathy. After that, we are attempt to find a method which is more effective and simple so that we can revise the application scope of electronic and abdominal acupuncture. We adopted small sample randomized controlled method in this research. To observe the curative effect of abdominal acupuncture, normal acupunctue is taken in controlled group. Then we are able to discuss the curative and advantage of combining electronic and abdominal acupuncture in treating Nerve root type cervical spondylosis (qi stagnation and blood stasis). As a result, a new therapy that more effective, durable and safe will be offered to the clinic. Therefore, this research is valuable for the economy and social.MethodsPatients included in this research are collected from outpatient and inpatient department of Guangdong provincial TCM hospital and outpatient department of The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong University of TCM.60 patients were randomly divided into two groups.30 cases in the treatment group were treated by electric combined with abdominal acupuncture and the other 30 cases in the control group treated by normal acupuncture. We contrasted the change of clinical symptoms and signs of patients before and after therapy. We estimated the change of clinical symptoms and signs of patients before and after therapy and contrast the curative effect between the two treatments by analyzing the scores that they get in Tanaka Yasuku symptom quantization table 20, Simplified McGill pain questionnaire. We statistically analyze the collected data with Spssl9.0. The measurement data is analyzed by t test, grade data by Ridit test to compare the difference between the therapeutic effect of the two groups.ResultDifferences of age, gender and course is not statistical between these two groups that manifests they are comparative in baseline phase. Differences of Tanaka Yasuku’s symptoms scores and Mcgill scores is not statistical between these two groups that manifests they are comparative in baseline phase.Differences of Tanaka Yasuku’s symptoms scores and Mcgill scores is not statistical between these two groups that manifests they are comparative in baseline phase. In the contrast between treatment and controlled group, we found treatment group (96.67%) got higher cure rate than controlled group(80.00%).In contrast of Tanaka Yasuku’s symptoms table between treatment and controlled group, we found treatment group got statistic, much higher score than controlled group. In contrast of Mcgill scores between treatment and controlled group, we found treatment group got statistic, much higher score than controlled group.ConclusionThis study manifests that, with electronic acupuncture combined with abdominal acupuncture, patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy will get symptom improvement and much better scores(vs. normal acupuncture, P<0.05) in Tanaka Yasuku’s symptoms table and Mcgill. These results showed that this type of treatment has practical value in clinic. In addition, this treatment, with its safety and efficiency, is worth of further promotion.
