[Objective] This study is to investigate the application of FDM in prosthodontics and oral implantology, including two parts.1. To study the feasibility of fabrication of cyst plug based on the techniques of FDM and 3D reconstruction.2. To study the feasibility of fabrication of individualized simulation models of oral implantology based on the techniques of FDM and 3D reconstruction.[Methods] This study include two experiments:1. A patient with jaw cyst after fenestration decompression was chosen. Firstly, the patient’s CBCT scan was taken 7 days after the surgery, and the digital lower model was made with a plaster model, using the 3 shape scanner. Secondly, the Mimics software was used to reconstruct the 3D model of maxilla, mandibular and teeth. Then the Geomagic studio software was used to registries the 3D multisource data, to get the 3D model including soft tissues and sclerous tissues. Thirdly, a cyst plug model was designed with the application of the ZBrush software based on the 3D model which reconstructed before. Then, the individual cyst plug model was fabricated with PP-PE based on the technique of FDM.2. A patient with dentition defect was chosen, and a CBCT was taken with a radiographic positioning template with resin balls. Then, the tooth and mandibular 3D reconstruction models were built separately with the Mimics software. The parts were extracted by the ZBrush software, and the Geomagic studio software was used to finish the 3D multisource data registration and parts integration. Finally, the PP-PE materials were chosen to fabricate the simulation model of accurate sclerous tissues based on the technique of FDM and the artificial gingival materials were used to fabricate the model of soft tissues. With the combining of sclerous parts and gingival, the individualized simulation model of oral implantology was finished.[Result] With the help of 3D reconstruction and FDM technology, an individualized cyst plug and an individualized simulation model containing soft tissues and sclerous tissues was fabricated based on the CBCT images data and digital jaw model.[Conclusion] In this study, combined with 3D reconstruction and CAD based on digital jaw model, obtained by CBCT images data the fabrication of individual cyst plug and simulation model of oral implantology with FDM is feasible. The whole progress is simple and efficient, and the finished products have good quality. The practical application value of this method in clinical and scientific research needs further research to explore.
