POEMS syndrome is a clinical syndrome associated with plasma cell disorder, which has complicated clinical manifestations that involve multiple systems. In order to attract the attention of clinical doctors to the disease and deepen the understanding, this report collected a total of 10 patients with POEMS syndrome in our institution from 2009 to the present and analysis the materials of the process of diagnosis and treatments. We found that every patients who were diagnosed as POEMS syndrome met the diagnostic criteria proposed by Dispenzieri et all in 2003. And in addition to the classical manifestations such as polyneuropathy, organomegaly, extravascular overload, endocrinapathy, skin changes, plasma cell dyscrasia, bone destruction, we reported clinical features include Raynaud’s phenomenon, dry mouth and polyuria, pulmonary hypertension, renal involvement and fever, which are not frequent.9 out of 10 patients were admitted to 9 different departments with 9 different initial diagnosis and 3 kinds of treatments. The mortality rate was high in patients who had not standardized treatments. Therefore, it is easy to lead to misdiagnosis because of complex clinical manifestations and the lack of awareness of the clinicians for this disease. POEMS syndromes should be considered when doctors of different departments meet the patients who have several clinical manifestations talked about above at the same time.
