Objective To investigate psychosocial distress status of hospitalized patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and analyze its influencing factors; then to evalute the effective of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction(MBSR) in reducing psychological distress in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients. Methods Use the method of convenience sampling, and psychosocial distress thermometer (DT) is used to measure the level of psychosocial distress of hospitalized patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, then by orderly classification Logistic regression analysis methods, we get the main factors influencing the degree of psychosocial distress; nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) patients were randomly separated into two groups, both groups received routine nursing and treatment, in addition, the experimental group received the MBSR for 8 weeks. Assessments will take place at baseline and post intervention. The primary outcome is psychological distress (use Distress Thermometer,DT), and the secondary outcomes are anxiety and depression(use The hospital anxiety and depression scale, HADS) and quality of life(use FACT-H&N).Results The study of the status and influencing factors of psychosocial distress in hospitalized patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma totally included 235 patients, and effectively 228 patients, DT score was 4.03±2.993, including DT<4 (36.8%) mild pain, DT 4-6 points (38.2%) moderate pain,25.0%DT 7 or more points (severe pain).Regression analysis showed that the economic problems, emotional problems(depression, fear, sadness), body problem (eating, oral ulcer, sleep problems), age, culture level, stressful life events in recent year, the time of disease diagnosis, and disease recurrence are the main factors influencing the degree of distress; the study of the MBSR intervention totally involved 128 nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) patients, who were randomly separated into two groups, before the MBSR intervention, the two groups had no significant difference in value of scales; and after the MBSR intervention, the scores of DT and HADS of experimental group were significant lower than the control group, and the score of FACT-H & N was significant higher. Compared between pre-intervention and post-intervention, both groups had significant differences. Conclusion 1.Hospitalized patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma have widespread psychosocial distress.2. Economic problems, emotional problems(depression, fear, sadness), body problem (eating, oral ulcer, sleep problems), age, culture level, stressful life events in recent year, the time of disease diagnosis, and disease recurrence are the main factors influencing the degree of distress.personnel clinical medical according to the related factors should be taken to reduce the degree of psychosocial distress.3. MBSR can be effective in reducing psychological distress,as well as anxiety and depression in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients, in addition, the MBSR can improve the quality of life.
