Objective This study aimed to explore the clinical biological characteristics, clinical manifestation, imaging features, endoscopic features, the clinicopathologic features of duodenal neuroendocrine tumor. Besides, in order to improve the diagnosis and treatment of duodenal neuroendocrine tumor, we also explored the relationship between the above features with the prognosis and treatment of this disease. Methods Seven patients in this study were diagnosed with duodenal neuroendocrine tumor by histopathology and treated in First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from January 2008 and July 2015. The clinical data of patients were analyzed retrospectively. Results Among 234 patients with malignant tumor of duodenum, this study selected seven patients with duodenal neuroendocrine tumor (four males and three females) with an average age of (52.00±11.28) years. The tumor diameter of five patients was greater than two centimeter, including one case invasion of muscularis propria, two cases invasion of the intestinal wall layer, one case invasion of submucosa. The tumor diameter of one patient ranged from one to two centimeter with invasion of muscularis propria. The tumor diameter of one patient was less than one centimeter with invasion of no more than mucosa. The main clinical manifestations included jaundice (three patients), abdominal pain (two patients), upper abdominal pain with fatty diarrhea (one patient), and melena (one patient). According to the tumor location, five cases located in duodenal papilla, one case located in the anterior wall of duodenal bulb, and one case located in descendant duodenum. According to imaging examination, lesions were found in two patients with MRI examination, and in three of the four patients with CT examination. Five patients were visible lesions by digestive endoscopy, including four patients performance as flushing, swelling, surface ulcers and easy bleeding on touch. Two patients with endoscopic ultrasound showed uniform hypoecho. As for treatment, five patients were treated by surgical, one patient was treated by endoscope, and one patient gave up treatment. During the follow-up period, three patients died, one patient relapsed, one patient survived, and two patients were lost of follow up.Conclusion The grade malignancy of duodenal neuroendocrine tumor is associated with the tumor size, infiltration degree and histilogical degree. The clinical manifestations of duodenal euroendocrine tumor are diverse and lack of specificity. Surgery is the the main treatment for duodenal neuroendocrine tumor, but most have a poor prognosis.
