Objective To develop the association of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features with human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER-2) expression in non-mass-like breast carcinoma.Methods The whole clinical pathologic datas of 74 cases were collected.All cases underwent magnetic resonance prior to surgery,performed as non-mass-like enhancement in dynamic contrast-enhanced MR imaging. The expression of HER-2 in tumor tissue were assayed by immunohistochemical staining(IHC) and fluorescence in situ hybridization(FISH). All patients underwent transverse T1WI-FLASH, T2WI-TIRM, dynamic contrast-enhanced(DCE) and diffusion weighted imaging(DWI) sequence scan. The morphological characteristics (including tumor size,distribution and internal enhancement manner of lesions), time signal intensity curve(TIC) type,time to peak(Tpeak),and ADC values were recorded,which were correlated with HER-2 expression applied by chi-square test,Fisher’s exact test and Spearman rank with the statistic software of SPSS 17.0.Results Among all the MRI features of 74 cases,tumor size positively correlated with the expression degree of HER-2 (r=0.341,P=0.003),while tumor-size values of HER-2-positive groups were significantly higher than that ofHER-2-negative groups (5.788±714cm VS 4.559±1.670cm,t=2.967, P=0.004 <0.05).Tpeak negatively correlated with the expression of HER-2 (r=-0.244, P=0.036),while the Tpeak values of HER-2-positive groups were significantly lower than that of HER-2-negative groups (2.564±0.725min VS 2.989±0.848min,t=-2.135,P=0.036< 0.05). ADC value positively correlated with the expression of HER-2 (r=0.317, P=0.006),while ADC values of HER-2-positive groups were significantly higher than that of HER-2-negative groups (1.042±0.182×10-3mm2/s VS 0.931±0.176×10-3mm2/s,t=2.519, P=0.014< 0.05). However,the distribution/internal enhancement manner of lesions and the type of time signal intensity curve had no significant correlation with HER-2 expression (all P>0.05)Conclusions Tumor size, Tpeak and ADC value may have certain correlation with the expression of HER-2 in non-mass-like breast carcinoma,and draw up the treatment and prognosis evaluation for non-mass-like breast carcinoma.
