Research Of Safety, Economy And Effect Of Simultaneous Bilateral Knee Joint Replacement

Purpose Total knee arthroplasty has been an effective manner to treat severe bilateral knee osteoarthritis. As to whether to perform simultaneous bilateral surgery or staged bilateral, there have always existed controversies. We took a comparison of simultaneous bilateral and unilateral arthroplasty from aspects of safety, economy and effect, aiming at giving some references for clinical work.Method 118 patients suffering from severe bilateral knee osteoarthritis and treated by TKA in the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University in the latest 3 years were divided into simultaneous bilateral arthroplasty group(47) and unilateral arthroplasty group(71). Variables reflecting safety, economy and effect were setted up and data were collected and analyzed using SPSS20.0 software.Outcomes There is no evident difference in safety between SBTKA group and UTKA group(p>0.05). In economy and effect, SBTKA is better than UTKA evidently(p<0.05).Conclusion With the same surgical management level, if the patient could resist, simultaneous bilateral surgery should be more welcomed, while performing simultaneous bilateral surgery at patients with preoperative cardiovascular diseases should de decided carefully. Patients with diabetes mellitus preoperatively should be guard against postoperative infection.
