Objective Laryngeal cancer is a common malignancy of head and neck cancer. Currently, due to the environmental pollution and the increasing amount of smoking and drinking, the incidence rate is also increasing. Despite a substantial increase over the previous medical conditions, the survival rate and quality of life in patients with laryngeal cancer is not satisfactory. This article aims to understand factors influencing the prognosis of laryngeal cancer and improve survival rate and quality of life in patients with laryngeal cancer.MethodsRetrospective cohort study were used to analyze the whole clinical data of 117 patients of laryngeal cancer at the People’s Hospital of Zhengzhou University(Henan Provincial People’s Hospital) during January 2010 to December 2012. A number of clinical indicators of possible effects on the prognosis of patients with laryngeal cancer were rigorously tested and recorded, such as the patient’s gender, age, smoking, drinking, comorbidities, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio(NLR), clinical stage, type of laryngeal cancer, TN-stage, differentiation of LSCC, surgical neck Ministry of lymph node dissection, the margins and the selection of therapy model. The statistic is analyzed by SPSS 17.0. The Kaplan-Meier method is used in survival analysis. The Cox proportional hazard regression model is used in the analysis of prognosis, P<0.05.Results There were a total of 117 cases of patients with LSCC, including 92 cases of surviving and 25 cases of death. All patients are followed up for more than 36 months. The 1-year overall survival rate was 84%, 3-year overall survival rate was 81%, 5-year overall survival rate was 70%. The 3-year survival rates of patients with laryngeal cancer in Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ, Ⅳ stage were 87%, 82%, 70% and 62%, 5-year survival rates were 75%, 77%, 70% and 62%. The results of Kaplan-Meier method suggest that age, smoking, NLR, differentiation of LSCC, laryngeal cancer type, TN stage and clinical type are factors affecting prognosis of LSCC. The Cox regression model analysis shows that the degree of tumor differentiation and N stage are main prognostic factors for LSCC.Conclusions Advocate a healthy lifestyle. According to a patient’s own situation and TNM stage, doctors should give timely and correct diagnosis and treatment, select the appropriate therapy model to completely remove the tumor, and correctly handle the cervical lymph nodes, so that the prognosis of the patient with laryngeal cancer can be improved.
