Objective:Intramedullary nail was the gold standard for treating long bone fractures. However, traditional femoral intramedullary nail has low exact rate at implantation of distal interlocking nail. To compare the clinical effect of the free-hand technique and the TRIGEN-SURESHOT Distal Targeting System when positioning the distal locking screws of femoral intramedullary nail. Methods:A total of 56 patients admitted to Shandong Provincial Hospital who suffered from femoral shaft facture from April,2011 to October,2015 were divided into two groups according to either the traditional technique (28 cases) or the TRIGEN-SURESHOT Distal Targeting System(28 cases) were applied. We compared the radiation exposure duration, distal locking time and the success rate of disposable lock between the two groups.Result:The mean success rate of disposable lock was 71.43% in Group of using traditional Technique and 94.64% in Group using TRIGEN-SURESHOT Distal Targeting System;Differences between the two groups had statistical significance (x2=7.38, P=0.007).The mean success rate of operation was 57.14% in Group of using traditional Technique and 89.29% in Group using TRIGEN-SURESHOT Distal Targeting System;Differences between the two groups had statistical significance (X2=10.71, P=0.001). The mean time of positioning two distal locking screws was (1301.18±628.72)s in Group of using traditional Technique and (604.57±176.295)s in Group using TRIGEN-SURESHOT Distal Targeting System; Differences between the two groups had statistical significance(t= t=7.95, P=0.0015).The mean radiation exposure duration of successfully positioning two distal locking screws was (23.39±6.00)s in Group 1 and (10.87±3.99)s in Group 2;Differences between the two groups had statistical significance(t=5.69, P=0.001).Conclusion:Compared with traditional free-hand technique, TRIGEN-SURESHOT Targeting System can significantly reduce distal locking time and exposure duration toionizing radiation of patients, greatly improves the success rate of disposable lock and provides lots of convenience when positioning of the distal locking screws of femoral intramedullary nails.
