Objective Epilepsy is commen chronic diseases of the nervous system in all ages, which featured by long duration and high morbidity.in the past, the treatment of epilepsy focuses on controlling, but ignoring the improvement of the quality of life.In recent years, With the transformation of medical model, epilepsy and the cognition、mental diseases 、social adaptability gets more and more attention.Previous studies show that children with epilepsy suffer from ecology executive dysfunction;Epilepsy itself, somatization symptoms, learning disabilities, family environment, may lead to socialmaladjustment in patients with epilepsy. Whether there is a correlation between the executive dysfunction and the social maladjustment in the epileptics has not been reported. This research adopts the BRIEF(behaviors Rating the Inventory of Executive Function) Scale and children’s Adaptive Behavior Scale(Child the Adaptive Behaviors Scale) to explore the characteristics of ecological executive function in school-aged children with idiopathic or probably symptomatic epilepsy and the effects of executive function on social adaptive function. Methods 51school-aged children with idiopathic or probably symptomatic epilepsy aged 5~12 years at our hospital and 37 normal ones of the same gender, age and educational level were selected. The differences in ecological executive function and social adaptive function were compared between two groups with the Behavior Rating correlation test and Multipe stepwise linear regression are used to explore the impact of executive function on social adaptive fuction. Results: The scores of school-aged children with idiopathic or probably symptomatic epilepsy in global executive composite(GEC),behavioral regulation index(BRI) and metacognition index(MI)of BRIEF(respectively,(62.22±12.04)、(57.82±12.78)、(62.94±11.80)) were significantly higher than those of the control group(respectively,(46.51±7.11)、(44.16 ± 6.15) 、(48.14± 7.82))(P<0.01). The scores of school-aged children with idiopathic or probably symptomatic epilepsy in adaptive behavior quotient(ADQ),indpendence, cognition, self-control,(respectively 85.86±22.48,32.39±17.40,49.33±13.53,40.82±16.07),were significantly lower than those of the control group(respectively, 119.76 ± 11.72, 59.38 ± 14.01, 58.92 ± 6.66,68.08 ±10.01)(P<0.01).Pearson’s correlation test showed that the scores of BRIEF,such as global executive composite(GEC),behavioral regulation index(BRI),metacogniton index(MI),inhibition, emotional control, monitoring, initiation and working memory had significantly negative correlations with the score of adapative behavior quotient(ADQ), indpendence,self-control((r =-0.313~-0.741,P<0.05)).Also,global executive composite(GEC),inhibition, metacogniton index(MI),initiation, working memory, plan, organization and monitor had significantly negative correlations with the score of cognition((r =-0.335~-0.437,P<0.05));Multiple stepwise linear regression analysis showed that BRI,inhibition and working memory was closely related with the social adaptive function of school-aged children with idiopathic or probably symptomatic epilepsy. Conclusion 1.School-aged children with idiopathic or probably symptomatic epilepsy may have significant ecological executive function impairment and social adaptive function reduction. 2.The aspects of BRI,inhibition and working memory in ecological executive function are significantly related with social adaptive function in school-aged children with epilepsy.
