Objective : To evaluate the clinical efficacy of modified Chevron osteotomy combined with soft tissue release for the treatment of Hallux Valgus. Methods: Any other medical conditions were excluded such as rheumatoid foot, neuromuscular bone disease, connective tissues disease, etc. 43 Hallux valgus cases(58feet) were selected which used the modified Chevron osteotomy combined with soft tissue release in 1st affiliated hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from April 2012 to August2015, time of follow up was 6 – 12 month. HVA(Hallux valgus angle) and IMA(Intermetatarsal angle) of 1st and 2nd digit of affect feet were measured by X ray film before surgery and at the time of last follow up, and AOFAS score system was applied to all patients preoperatively and at the time of last follow up, SPSS 17.0 software was used for statistical analysis of the relevant data. Results: A total of 43 patients with 58 feet were followed, with a mean9.79months(range 6 to 12months).1 case of preoperative and postoperative pain did not change significantly, 2 cases of first metatarsophalangeal joint stiffness, 1 patient fixation discomfort, HAV were 38.6±4.54° before operation and it’s corrected to 14.9±2.768° at the time of last follow up, IMA were 14.96±1.681° before operation and it’s corrected to7.63±0.956° at the time of last follow up. AOFAS score were 46.63±10.038 before operation and its elevated up to 85.42 ± 7.841 at the time of last follow up. Use of t test to compare all statistical data of HVA, IMA and AOFAS at the time of last follow up with data before operation, the difference was statistically significant(p <0.05).Conclusions: The modified Chevron osteotomy can effectively correct severe Hallux Valgus, to restore full functionality of the foot as soon as possible and obtain satisfactory clinical efficacy.
